Build a Gaming PC for under $1000

Choose a Case

The first step to building your Gaming PC for under $1000 is to find a nice cheap, but still decent case.  We have listed a few for you below.

Choose a Motherboard and CPU

The next step to building a gaming PC for under $1000 is to purchase a Motherboard, and a CPU.  You will want to make sure that the CPU and motherboard is comparable with each other.  For this reason we have broken up Intel’s boards and CPU’s from AMD’s Boards and CPU’s as they are not cross compatible.

 Choose your RAM

The next step for building a gaming PC for under $1000 is to purchase some RAM.  All the suggested boards above use DDR3 RAM so we will give you a 8GB and a 16GB option.

Choose your GPU

The next step of building a gaming PC for under $1000 is to choose you GPU, or Graphic Processing Unit (Graphic Card).  In this aspect you have 2 choices AMD or Nvidia.  Both will work in your setup using the motherboards and CPU’s above.

Choose your HDD or SSD

The next step of building a Gaming PC for under $1000 is to choose your HDD and/or SSD  An HDD is usually the cheaper option that offers more storage, and the SSD is the extremely faster option that holds less storage and is more expensive.

Choose a Disk Drive

The next step of building a Gaming PC for under $1000 is to pick your disk drive.  Note that it is not required to have a disk drive, though it is recommended.

Choose your PSU

The next step of Building a gaming PC for under $1000 is to choose a PSU or Power Supply Unit.   Depending on your GPU choice above you can go anywhere from a 450W PSU to a 650W PSU.

Choose your Operating System

The Final Step of Building a Gaming PC for under $1000 is to choose an Operating System to install on it.  You can choose free operating systems like the upcoming SteamOS or Linux, or you can choose to install the paid Operating System like Windows 7 or 8.    We will only provide the Windows Operating Systems for this guide, as they are the most stable and support the most games.  However if you are out of your budget do consider Linux or SteamOS.
